"Salesman"

I listened to the deluxe edition of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd. recently, and yester-day, I noticed a small feature in "Salesman."  I'm not completely sure of my transcription, but the second line of the second verse is something like "It's salesman, well, you real hard till every part is sold."  "Every" is sung with three syllables, and this provides a sense of number.

According to Andrew Sandoval's The Monkees: The Day-by-Day Story of the 60s TV Pop Sensation, "The Devil & Peter Tork" - the fifty-second episode of The Monkees series (and the twentieth of the second season) - was broadcast fifty years ago to-day (5 February 1968).  It was written by Gerald Gardner, Dee Caruso, and Robert Kaufman, directed by James Frawley, and featured the songs "Salesman" and "No Time."  Sandoval describes the plot as: "Peter sells his soul to the Devil (Monte Landis) during a lesson in music and morality."

One of my sub-projects this year is to figure out a bass part for a song on Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd. every month.  A couple days ago, I got most of the bass part (the verses and about half of the bridge) and all of the chords for "Salesman."  Right before I recorded this, I figured out the rest of the bass part during the bridge.

My recording ends right before the little drum solo.  When the other instruments come back in, there's some more variety in the bass part, but I haven't figured that out yet.
